Nora is half a year old. And it is killing me! She is growing like a weed and is so fun these days. Her personality is really developing, which makes interacting with her hilarious. She smiles, laughs, squeals, and makes a ton of funny noises. She loves her exersaucer (thank you Katharyn!) and this jumperoo thing (again, thanks Kat!). She's rolling like a champ in both directions and spends most of her night rolling around in her crib. Yes, I said crib. We are officially a crib-sleeper, and I am thrilled. While our initial attempts at getting her into the crib were unsuccessful (to say the least), the final time we tried it, she did great and transitioned so well. Sweet Marc actually took care of the first night while I did some quick Christmas shopping. He's much better at dealing with the crying and screaming than I am! She has done great since. In fact, she now loves her crib. We went to Lafayette for a wedding, and she despised sleeping in the pack and play (making those late nights even later). I've never been so glad to see her crib when we returned home! She still isn't sleeping through the night, and recently has started waking up multiple times a night (2-3 times). She goes down around 6:30 and then wakes up around 10, 12:30, and 3:30. She's up for the day between 6 and 7. I'm hoping that we can reduce those multiple wake-up times soon!
She also started solids this month. She is a good eater and seems to like most everything that we try. Her favorites are sweet potatoes and fruits. She still has her oatmeal or rice cereal in the morning and then a fruit or veggie at night. She's still a little messy, but is getting much better at the eating coordination. She still takes a 4-5 oz bottle every 3 to 4 hours.
She recently had her 6 month check-up and got a good report. Dr. P said that she is still "petite," but healthy and doing well. She was 14 lbs 4 oz (20%) and 24.75 inches long (15%). Her head circumference was 17.5 inches - a whopping 90%! Dr. P said that sometimes she worries when a baby's head outpaces the rest of her body, but that head size is a familial trait. Then she looked at Marc and said, "And I'm sorry, but she's got your head." So, all is well on that front too! She got four shots (three vaccines and a flu shot) and an oral vaccine. She cried, but recovered once we left. I really think it is harder on us than it is on her.
A few other things that I want to remember: She is wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes. She can still wear some 0-3 and a few 6-9 month things (most of those are still too big). She usually takes 2 naps during the day: one short 30-45 minute one and one good 2 hour one. Sometimes the long nap is in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon. It depends on her day and her mood. She found her feet this month and loves to look at them and play with them. She adores her lovey (she has several and doesn't discriminate). She sleeps with one and loves to chew/suck on them. She's completely over the pacifier and only chews on her hands/sucks her thumb sometimes. But that lovey is definitely her go to! She does well in the car most of the time. We had to make two trips to Lafayette this month (a 7 hour drive each way), and she did well. There were some tough times, especially on the drives back to Birmingham, but all-in-all I think she was a good traveler.
