One year ago today, Marc and I were on a plane bound for Hawaii. Actually, we were probably in the LA airport food court on our layover eating greasy pizza and calling all our friends to get the gossip from the previous night's festivities. It is hard to believe that it has already been a year since our wedding.
I feel like it was yesterday that JD was singing with the band,
the Fontenots and the Markses were in a dance-off,
Joe was doing the chicken dance,
Mo was hitting the stage,
and Marc was shoving cake in my face (note to future husbands everywhere: forget what you have seen on movies and television, brides do not like to have wedding cake smeared all over their face in front of their dearest family and friends... and photographers).
We loved our wedding, (if you want a quick recap), but we have loved the year that has followed so much more. It hasn't always been easy (see the mention of the million thrift store lamps in the previous post), but it has been - by far - the best year of my life. (I'm counting on a "ditto" from M on this one).
To celebrate the big oh-one, we decided to take an early-anniversary trip to New Orleans for Memorial Day. We ate lots of delicious food (at here and here), went to the D-Day Museum (so great), walked all over the Quarter, and generally just enjoyed the city and being together.
The highlight of the trip was a cooking seminar by M's favorite chef, John Folse.
The food was . . . interesting. I'm still not completely sold on Cajun food (hence the nachos I ordered later in the afternoon), but the seminar was so cool and the dessert was as good as it looks.
M practically ran to the front of the room to get his picture taken with his hero after the show was over.
Here are a few random pictures we managed to snap over the weekend:
| me: happy to be in nola |
| M, not so happy - at least not to have his picture taken |
Note: we didn't go to Harrah's but overheard a small child asking her parents what it was. When they told her it was a "casino" where people go to try to get money, she responded, "You can get more money from the tooth fairy." Gamblers, take note.
Yesterday, on our actual anniversary, we had a low-key day with church, brunch, and relaxing around the house. M cooked a yummy lasagna for dinner, and we had wedding cake for dessert (shockingly still good, but this time not all over my face).
All in all, a great way to cap off a great year.
